The Cuckoo House has 3 floors.
On the first there is an open plan living room/dining room/kitchen. The kitchen area has a large Belfast sink cut into a luxurious slate work surface and a long wooden breakfast bar. Appliances include fridge, Microwave, 4-ring halogen electric cooker (with fan oven) and a washing machine.
There is a huge original coal range, which has been fully restored and can be lit on request. There is a large hardwood dining table or, weather permitting, various outdoor eating options. There is a huge antique bureau containing a good selection of board games and a Ping Pong set that can be used in conjunction with the dining table. There are two large comfortable sofas in front of the range and a TV DVD combo.
The bathroom features a truly enormous cast iron bath with large brass taps and original Victorian plunger plug. There is also a power shower, toilet and basin.
The first floor features two double bedrooms, one (which is open plan) with glorious views across the valley and the other at the rear of the property. There is a hand basin on this floor along with a chest of drawers in each room. There is also a Victorian wooden cot.
The attic features 2 bedrooms, 1 small double with a chest of drawers and the other with 2 single beds and access to the balcony.
Horseshoe and Longeared Bats have been around in the mansion for many many years, and occasionally visit the attic bedrooms especially in the late summer and autumn. We cannot guarantee you will see them, but if you ring in advance we can let you know whether or not they have been seen this year – bring your camera – you may be lucky.
The whole estate is strewn with weird and wonderful objects collected by owner, chronic eccentric and antiques dealer, Giles. By it’s very nature this does mean that small children will need to be constantly supervised.
